Fostering Panel Chair –Worcester and surrounding West Midlands area.

Regional Foster Families is an independent fostering agency providing safe, high quality family placements to children and young people who are ‘looked after’ by local authorities. We pride ourselves on providing an environment which enables the children and young people to fulfil their potential and live positive lives.

The West Midland’s team are currently looking for a new Panel Chair for our fostering panel. This is an independent position and remuneration is per panel attended.

 As the Panel Chair you will take on the responsibility for the understanding of purpose and function of the panel and of the agency which the panel is serving. You will Chair the Panel meetings ensuring that all business items are covered.

The fostering panel provides independent oversight of the recruitment, assessment and review of foster carers and makes reasoned decisions on their suitability to foster.

Applicants should have experience either professionally, personally or both of the placement of children in adoptive or foster families or of children being cared for away from their birth family.

Applicants should note that this is a self-employed position would therefore need to show self-employed status with HRMC.

As a Panel Chair your responsibilities will include:

  • To Chair panel meetings, ensuring that all items of business are covered and that panel operates in accordance with regulations and policies and procedures of the agency.
  • To prepare for panel meetings, reading panel papers carefully, identifying key issues and alerting the Regional Manager if necessary, to ensure, as far as possible, that the case is adequate for submission to panel.
  • To facilitate the active participation of all panel member’s in contributing to the panel’s consideration of cases and to the marking of clear and well-evidenced recommendations with the reasons for these.
  • To ensure that all those attending panel are treated with respect and courtesy.
  • To address diversity issues and to promote anti-discriminatory practice at all times.
  • To safeguard the confidentiality of all panel papers and panel discussions.

Salary:  Full day £320 / Half Day £210 this is a flat rate inclusive of reading and travel.

The Panel Chair role requires DBS clearance, which will be undertaken by company on your behalf.
